Workplace burnout is rife. It takes an enormous toll, impacting wellbeing, productivity, engagement, employee turnover and organisational performance. As the situation continues to worsen, leaders and organisations need data-driven solutions to address the systemic, root causes of burnout and ensure sustainable people outcomes.
In its fifth year, The State of Workplace Burnout Study is looking to expand our understanding of the continuing impact of burnout and help organisations create specific insights and guidelines to help organisations tackle structural and cultural causes that lead to burnout.
This year, we look to build on existing knowledge and expand our understanding of the interdependencies in the causes and solutions of burnout. The year’s study will look to:
Infinite Potential is looking to partner with organisations and agencies to collaborate and enhance our research and insights. Through strong partnerships, IP can expand its reach and impact in providing ground-breaking research and practice advice to help leaders and organisations address burnout.
Burnout has a significant effect on organisational performance, efficiency, and cost. As burnout continues to grow across industries and countries, this study seeks to gather insights to help organisations target solutions and populations to alleviate the prevalence of burnout.
In these uncertain times, how organisations treat employees will have a long-lasting impact on their behaviour, including engagement, productivity and loyalty, as well as company culture.
While the focus on engagement has been a priority for many companies, more progressive employers are beginning to see employee satisfaction and engagement as smaller components of what their people really care about, which is wellbeing.
Progressive companies are using our data and insights on burnout to shift to a more holistic “culture of wellbeing” to attract and retain top talent and bring out the best in their employees, as well as having another lever to improve company performance.
Study Details
Burnout continues to grow across industries and demographic groups. The effects of burnout are detrimental not only for individuals but also for the organisation and society. In its fifth year, the State of Workplace Burnout study will provide insights into the causes, effects and possible solutions to this silent epidemic. This study will be led by Dr John Chan and Sally Clarke from Infinite Potential.
This anonymous online survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
Privacy
Privacy is our top priority. The data collected will be anonymous and will be used for research purposes only. Participation is completely voluntary. As such, it will not be possible to identify an individual response, and it will not be possible to delete any participant’s data after the survey has been submitted. Individual data will not be shared with anyone, and results will only be presented in group formats.
What is the benefit of participating in this research?
Completing the survey may help the participants self-reflect on their current state of wellbeing, and better understand the structural and cultural causes of burnout. Their responses will help researchers to better understand the prevalence of burnout and its relationship to burnout. The results of this study will be shared publicly to help the global community create more targeted solutions to address the prevalence of burnout.
Are there any risks/inconvenience?
While there are minimal risks associated with participating in this study, we are conscious of the following potential risks:
The survey will ask you to think about your experiences and interactions in the workplace. For those that may be having/have had bad experiences in the workplaces, there is a possibility of triggering a bad memory or experience.
Participants will be asked to share personal information in order for us to better understand any demographic differences (e.g., Age). However, the survey is anonymous and there is no way to trace the data back to any individual. All data will be handled with strict confidentiality.
Timeline
Data collection is recommended to be open for 4 weeks during October/November.
Participating organisations can receive a tailored report for their organisation - terms and conditions apply. Please contact us for more details.
The State of Burnout report will be made public in February 2025.
